Farm Management
DISCLAIMER
Often medical “experience is offered on Alpacasite; however, you
should always check with your own vet first before proceeding. Information
provided here is the opinion of the author(s), not the owners
of Alpacas del Oeste. Many of these people would be the
first to say that they aren’t veterinarians, but are offering
their suggestion(s) based upon their own experience. (For
a good description, go to the A tab and read a posting by) Neil

Alpaca Wisdom
When I was first beginning my research into alpacas, I discovered
Alpacasite. Alpacasite is a Yahoo group. You can
join this group by going to http://groups.yahoo.com and
searching on alpacasite. When you launch it, you will be
prompted to “join this group.” Sign up and discover
Alpaca Wisdom.
I have collected so much wisdom from this site that I couldn’t
find anything, so I decided to organize it. Most of the
information here is related to the medical care of alpacas, but
there is also husbandry, farm management and many other items of
interest. I have tried to cross-reference where appropriate,
and I continue to add to this listing as the wisdom doesn’t
stop. I have also given credit for the comments, so that
if you wanted to check directly with the person, you can do so.
The alpaca industry is still a very young industry and the number
of vets with camelid experience is limited. Even a camelid
vet with experience hasn’t experienced every situation that
may occur with an alpaca, so folk wisdom has arisen and often vets
are learning from the experience of alpaca breeders.
ONCE AGAIN, USE THIS INFORMATION CAUTIOUSLY.
