Alpacas Del Oeste is dedicated to helping new alpaca farmers
learn what they need to know to make a successful start in the alpaca
industry. If we don’t have the information, we’ll help
you find it.
Most alpaca owners tell you about the joys of watching a cria being
born or seeing their alpaca’s pronking through the grass
in the early evening while sipping a glass of wine from the
porch swing or living stress-free and getting rid of the long commute
to the big city. You will hear about these gentle creatures, how soft
they are, how beautiful and how easy care they are. Alpaca farming is all of that and it is a wonderful investment.
Some people will make a lot of money in this business, some will
fail and
most will make a living that they have longed for, financially
and otherwise, neither rich nor poor. Yet raising alpacas is a livestock business and like any business
it is hard work. Alpacas are considered easier to rear than other
livestock.
Basically, they are fed twice a day, water refreshed, yard clean-up
performed, and that’s it. But there is also worming to do,
shots to give, alpacas to be shorn, fleece to be prepared, shows
to get
ready for, vet visits, fences to build and
repair and other typical farm chores. A person can be as involved in the business as they choose to be.
You can be either a passive or active investor with tax benefits
to both.
You can have a farm as small as 5 acres or even no farm
at all by boarding your alpacas. Some people will be able to
quit their day job and work fulltime with their alpacas and others
continue
to
work and raise alpacas too. You can have an on-farm
store or an on-line store or none at all. You can show your alpacas
or not. You can have a few inexpensive pet quality animals and
simply enjoy the pleasure of your alpacas or you can breed for
the highest quality. Your Business Plan should take into consideration
your long-terms goals. |
